SPIRIT.

- Section 1 -

Genesis 1:1,2
1 In the beginning God created the
heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form,
and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of
God moved upon the face of the
waters.

***
John 4:24
24 God is a Spirit: and they that
worship him must worship him in
spirit and in truth.
John 3:5-8
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I
say unto thee, Except a man be born
of water and of the Spirit, he cannot
enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh
is flesh; and that which is born of
the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,
Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it
listeth, and thou hearest the sound
thereof, but canst not tell whence it
cometh, and whither it goeth: so is
every one that is born of the Spirit.

Thus olden faith's pale star now blends
In seven-hued white!
Life, without birth and without end,
Emitting light!

Give us grace for to-day;
feed the famished affections.

(-17- Infinite Spirit)
XVII. Spirit being God, there is but one Spirit, for there can
be but one infinite and therefore one God. There are neither
spirits many nor gods many. There is no evil in Spirit, because
God is Spirit. The theory, that Spirit is distinct from matter
but must pass through it, or into it, to be individualized, would
reduce God to dependency on matter, and establish a basis for
pantheism.

93:21-3 Chapter 4: Christian Science versus Spiritualism

Chapter 4: Christian Science versus Spiritualism
The love of the good and beautiful, and their immortality.

Seeking and Finding.

What the Beloved knew and taught,
Science repeats,
Through understanding, dearly sought,
With fierce heart-beats;

Adorable One.

(Derivatives of spirit)
The belief that Spirit is finite as well as infinite has
darkened all history. In Christian Science, Spirit, as a proper
noun, is the name of the Supreme Being. It means quantity and
quality, and applies exclusively to God. The modifying
derivatives of the word spirit refer only to quality, not to
God. Man is spiritual. He is not God, Spirit. If man were
Spirit, then men would be spirits, gods. Finite spirit would be
mortal, and this is the error embodied in the belief that the
infinite can be contained in the finite. This belief tends to
becloud our apprehension of the kingdom of heaven and of the reign
of harmony in the Science of being.
(Scientific man)
Jesus taught but one God, one Spirit, who makes man in the image
and likeness of Himself, - of Spirit, not of matter.

To-day, as oft, away from sin
Christ summons thee!
Truth pleads to-night: Just take Me in!
No mass for Me!

God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death.

Question 5. - What are the demands of the Science of Soul?
ADAM = The opposite of good, - of God and His creation.

(Soul not confined in body)
Science reveals Spirit, Soul, as not in the body, and God as not
in man but as reflected by man. The greater cannot be in the
lesser. The belief that the greater can be in the lesser is an
error that works ill. This is a leading point in the Science of
Soul, that Principle is not in its idea. Spirit, Soul, is not
confined in man, and is never in matter. We reason imperfectly
from effect to cause, when we conclude that matter is the effect
of Spirit; but a priori reasoning shows material existence to be
enigmatical. Spirit gives the true mental idea. We cannot
interpret Spirit, Mind, through matter. Matter neither sees,
hears, nor feels.

(Godward gravitation)
The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings, and its
government is divine Science. Man is the offspring, not of the
lowest, but of the highest qualities of Mind. Man understands
spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and
Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward, their
affections and aims grow spiritual, - they must near the broader
interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the
infinite, - in order that sin and mortality may be put off.

264:15 Chapter 9: Creation

(Self-completeness)
When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this
understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in
God, good, and needing no other consciousness.
