Poems of Joy
Hymns of Healing

The poems listed below have been adapted from the words of the hymns of 1932 Edition of The Christian Science Hymnal, to the best of my knowledge. This puts the words of the poems in the public domain from 1982 on.

The poems for the hymns have had many sources, some dating back to biblical times. Most are derived from individual contributions over a long time-span going back more than 100 years, even before the first publication of the Christian Science Hymnal in 1892. The last Hymn, #429, for example, was published 40 years prior to 1932.

The poems behind the hymns are presented here, because they proved to be a valuable resource for healing in my personal experience.

Some of the original phrases have been modified, as had been required during times of trial, which has proved valuable to me in the modified form. Some of the modified versions are presented separately as focused on God as universal Love, on the website of my personal poems. See: Love Poems

For the music of the hymns and the arrangement of the poems with the music, as well as subsequent changes that are not included here, please refer to the modern Hymnal available in all Christian Science Reading Rooms.

In this presentation four terms, shown below, have been replaced according to the pattern that Mary Baker Eddy outlined for the 23rd Psalm (see: Science and Health p.578) - The terms Love, Truth, and Soul are synonyms for God and are of central significance in divine Science. In the presentation below, the following terms have been substituted.

Him = 'Love'
His = `Love's`
Father = `Truth`
Lord = `Soul`
