God is Love
that this we cannot ask,
The great Apostle John wrote about his experiences as a disciple of Christ Jesus, saying... "God is Love."
And discoverer and founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, stated emphatically:
Indeed, Love is the key-issue. Mary Baker Eddy also wrote under the title, 'Love:'
The manner in which Love is commonly expressed in the world affords us far too little of what its potential holds. Evidence suggests that it is one of the most misunderstood of all the spiritual concepts, without even touching the sexual sphere.
Mary Baker Eddy also made another profound statement that brings to light the wide range of aspects in scientific and spiritual development from the moral to the absolute spiritual realm, which evidently also includes the sexual domain where we find some of the deepest divisions in society and also abuses of Love interwoven with layers upon layers of confusion and counter-currents, which nothing short of the healing effect of Christian Science has the potential to address.
Mary Baker Eddy writes on the issue of the moral-to-spiritaal development-transition:
I see a progression indicated here in which the freedom in Soul can never be sub-moral. She defines the moral domain as transitional to the spiritual domain. There is evidently a lot of scientific scrubbing required to purge the sub-moral from the landscape of Love being expressed. However a great deal of care is required so that the spiritual aspects are not thrown away as well.
One arena, if not the most prominent arena, in which the spiritual is thrown away with the sub-moral, is the sexual arena. Sex is a spiritual idea. Humanity is a "compound idea, including all right ideas:" Mary Baker Eddy writes:
Sex as a spiritual quality sets the stage for intimacy between people, which becomes reflected in family intimacy, ethnic and national intimacy, even economic intimacy as people cooperate to built a richer and freer world for one another. These altogether furnish the substance and stability of civilization and the natural expression in society of the Principle of the General Welfare. This deep-reaching connection appears to be little understood. Evidence suggests that it was apparently better understood during the age of the Pharaohs in ancient Egypt, then it is understood in the modern world.
The Pharaohs seem to have understood that the strength of society can be disabled at the very root by surgically removing from their slaves, both in men and women, the biological features that provide a large portion of their sexual sensitivity, thereby creating 'better' slaves, or more compliant slaves. This practice of the sexual mutilation of society, with many more forms of 'mutilation' added, has been continued to the present day for countless reasons for building empires with a slavish society.
modern times the male
circumcision covers a vast segment of mankind with just short of 700 million victims.
female excision is lessening, with slightly more than 100 million victims
being estimated to exist. It is interesting to note
that the regions in which the sexual mutilation of society is most concentrated are also the
world's major trouble spots where the populations have become relatively
easily enslaved to imperial control and destabilization.
The most striking aspect of this trend is evident in the USA where the male mutilation now stands at the 100 million mark, or 70% of the entire U.S. population, which grew out of very little, especially from WWII on and through the postwar period. The vast transformation that is evident in the USA between the before and now illustrates the scope of the debilitating effect that the mutilation and eradication of a profound spiritual idea brings with it. The consequence appear to be incalculable, of a world of fading expressions of Love.
While the arguments on subject are wide-ranging they cannot conceal the long-term and often deep reaching effects against the unfolding of Love in society, which has a reflection on social living, economics, and the welfare of society, even the peace of the world. Few can judge how deep the effects are. Men who chose to be circumcised later in life were surprised by the debilitating effect. One said it's like living in a world without color. Another said he would give anything to get back what he lost, he would even give his house for it. When the procedure is performed on infants, which are known to feel pain more intensely, the resulting in a trauma that has lifelong consequences affecting attitudes, learning, ties to parents, family, and in the same context later to the nation and mankind. In the flow of this cutting intervention many natural reflections of Love become lost, making the scope of human love smaller and smaller.
The point in bringing up this example of the circumcision is to highlight how much of our civilization is lost when aspects of Love are pushed into the background or out of sight. The case of the sharp rise of the circumcision in the USA in the last century, enables a comparison in which the value of Love becomes evident by the effect of it having become diminished on a large scale. During the rapidly 'mutilating enslavement' in the USA, primarily in the postwar period, the expression of Love has been pushed ever deeper into the background . The individual consequences are too numerous to list here, ranging from the lingering the terror of a nuclear holocaust, to political terrorism, the destruction of industries, the looting of the nation, the collapse of the economy, even the collapse of its currency, and so on. In this vast development in which Love is being pushed into the background and out of sight, we also see the rapid collapse of Christian Science as a spiritual power happening, occurring together with the rise of crime, unemployment, homelessness, hunger, gambling, prostitution, hard core homosexuality, lesbianism, feminism, and the devolution of culture, education, science, intermingled with growing violence, primitivism, and irrationality.
Wile Love is being pushed far out of sight in the shadow of the growing mutilating enslavement of society on so many fronts, a healing is required that needs to go deep into the rediscovery and further discovery of universal Love as divine Principle reflected in mankind and civilization. In order to explore the fading landscape of Love where society is evermore in need of healing, I started to compose a series of novels and research works as far back as the mid-1980s.
The exploratory work became increasingly built on the platform for scientific and spiritual development that Mary Baker Eddy has pioneered more than a century earlier, but which still remains largely hidden in obscurity. On this basis thirty years of work was devoted to the project to inspire a healing trend. The large effort produced a research-series of more than a dozen volumes with the title "Discovering Infinity", and it produced fourteen novels on the subject of exploring the dimensions of Love. Twelve of the novels focusing deeply on the dimension of Love are functionally episodes of a single series with the title, "The Lodging for the Rose," The first episode of the series has the title, "Discovering Love." The series became a large project for reasons of the wide scope of the subject. It became expanded into twelve volumes, because the landscape of Love turned out to be far wider than I had expected. When I started, I thought the subject could be covered in a single episode. Was I ever mistaken! Even now, the work still continues, adding more vistas to some of the episodes that serve as frameworks for the discovery process.
Against the background of the rapidly expanding crisis in the world today that is devastating society evermore deeply in the spheres of finance, economics, housing, food, national and individual security, and and politics, and so on, the first episode of the series of novels has been extended in order to provide a richer background right from the start, for the healing that is required. The updating involved a six-month period of intensive effort, starting early in 2008. The result is now available as the "2008 Extended Edition" of the first episode of series with the title, "Discovering Love." This new edition, like all of my other novels, is available on-line for free. The full text is accessible for on-line reading directly on the internet. The book is also available for free downloading in PDF format (6x9 version), and it is available in printed form in two different formats at a modest cost, produced by a process of customs printing (one at a time as ordered). What is presented here is evidently not about making money (not that I discovered the secret of living without it). The healing and protection of society and civilization as a whole goes beyond it being a money issue. Nor would the cost of producing the books likely be recovered. So the work is offered for free, just as Love is forever free in its blessings and must be so expressed as an expression of divine Principle. On this note the work is carried forward for as long as it can be maintained and needs to be maintained, and is presented to you with love.
Only one mayor question remains to be answered here in respect to Christian Science. Does the focusing on Love aid the needed healing of the world? Where is the evidence that this even possible?
The answer is that the above kind of questioning is actually invalid, because it is impossible to determine what the world would be like if the scientific and spiritual movements that have been moving in the background would never have occurred. No one can imagine, for example, what the world would be like today if the discoveries and the healing work that Mary Baker Eddy brought to the world had not happened.
One thing we can gleam from history is that the period in which her discoveries were made, which culminated in 1866 in her own momentous healing and continued to the end of her days in 1910, was one of the world's longest periods of peace in recent centuries, and of humanity and unfolding economic development, especially in the USA. Of course the casual connection between the two phenomena cannot be proven. One cannot measure what would have resulted if certain profound occurrences had not happened, that have happened.
Empiric evidence takes on a special quality in spiritual processes. Here we measure the evidence that is inherent in the effects of Principle rather than force. The discovered scientific realities therefore provide a different kind yardstick for judging the resulting evidence and its potential for the future. The healing of society in the wide landscape of Love often involves subtle shifts in human perception as we find it in cases of 'insanity' yielding to gratitude; or indifference yielding to humanity; or empire yielding to goodness; force yielding to the power of Principle; physics being superceded with metaphysics; the prisons of limitation becoming dissolved in the light of the freedom of Soul; the night of poverty giving way to the brilliance of the infinite energies of Spirit; and so on..
The evidence that unfolds in Science is, that the use of 'force' in the world is recursive against itself, whereas the power of Principle unfolding in the world is expansive, developing, and enriching all that is built thereon, which thereby reflects it. Love is indeed divine Principle. It is the key-stone of the universe. The universe and man are not self-contradictory, self-exhaustive, and entropic in nature, but are forever harmonizing and unfolding with potentials not yet even imagined. Such is the nature of Love, the undefeatable, the divine impetus that never ceases to assert its claim and to reflect the nature of omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, and omni-action that are reflecting the nature of God.
